Conserving Africa through Learning

On 25 May, the world celebrates Africa Day, and throughout the month we explore the role education plays in the long-term future of our continent and its biodiversity. When children are educated and young people are inspired to learn, opportunities are created, communities grow stronger, and the value of our natural heritage becomes more widely understood.

We explore how this takes shape across the landscapes managed by African Parks in partnership with governments – from supporting learning institutions and environmental education to community partnerships, skills development and shared learning. Alongside them, the African Conservation Academy aims to develop leadership and management skills needed to support conservation across the continent.

Investing in The Future

  • Learning in the Field
Across Chad’s protected areas, students and researchers are gaining hands-on conservation experience through research, fieldwork and knowledge exchange.
  • Safeguarding Species Through Education
Watch how young students in Zimbabwe are being inspired to build a stronger connection to pangolins and their natural heritage.
  • Growing Through Conservation Clubs
From conservation clubs to school support programmes, Liuwa Plain National Park is helping young people engage with conservation from an early age.
  • Skills for New Opportunities
Vocational training programmes are helping young people surrounding Odzala-Kokoua gain practical skills that support employment, livelihoods and long-term opportunity
  • Learning from Experience
Conservation leaders like Ladis Ndahiriwe carry decades of lived experience. Sharing this knowledge across generations and protected areas is helping strengthen conservation over time.
  • Investing in Infrastructure
Supporting local development of schools and learning spaces, like this one in Kafue, is creating stronger opportunities for education, growth and skills development.
