Women in Conservation

At African Parks, we celebrate the women making a difference in conservation across Africa. From control rooms and ranger stations to classrooms and community initiatives, African women are increasingly taking on leadership and mentoring roles in diverse settings.

Stories of Women Inspiring Change Across Africa

  • Youth and Women Driving Community Transformation
Women and youth are driving change In Zambia’s Bangweulu Wetlands. From Safe Motherhood Action Groups saving lives through reproductive health programmes and the provision of maternal and neonatal care, to youth leaders championing HIV awareness and reforestation.
  • Safeguarding Traditions in Chinko
Dialogue with the Chinko Conservation Area team, initiated by the women of Fodé village, has led to the revival of traditional fishing at the Ngaga Lakes, with positive impacts for both livelihoods and sustainable resource management.
  • Aché Beïne Ahmat Inspiring Journey in Conservation
In eastern Chad, Aché Beïne Ahmat traded her path as a midwife for one that safeguards both people and nature. Her role as a control room operator provides a vital link between the park headquarters and teams in the field.
  • Theo Mushimire: A Leader in Conservation and Construction
