Park Revenue Generation

The spectacular mountainous topography and unique biodiversity gives Nyungwe National Park immense potential as one of the continent’s most extraordinary tourism destinations. Nyungwe is part of a national three-park route which includes Akagera, Nyungwe, and Volcanoes national parks, positioning Rwanda as a leading wildlife experience destination.

Over 26,000 guests, visited the park in 2024, of which 37% were Rwandan and 63% international. Two recently completed campsites are operational along the Uwinka-Kamiranzovu-Gisakura three-day walk; known as the Cyinzobe Trail, it was ranked as one of the best African destinations to visit in 2024. Five self-catering campsites were also built along the 100 km Nshili-Gisovu Trail and one on Mount Bigugu in 2024. In 2025, adding further tourist offerings, the park opened its Canopy Zipline – one of the longest in Africa – and launched the Gisakura Rope Course.
