Nyungwe National Park Launches New Adventures and Eco Lodge
Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda, 12 August 2025 — Nyungwe National Park is pleased to unveil three exciting additions to the park's tourism infrastructure: the Nyungwe Canopy Zipline, the Gisakura Rope Course, and the newly opened Munazi Eco Lodge. These developments mark a new chapter in immersive, eco-conscious tourism, offering both international and local visitors unforgettable ways to experience one of Africa’s most biodiverse rainforests.
Fly Through the Forest: The Nyungwe Canopy Zipline
Suspended high above the treetops, the Nyungwe Zipline spans an impressive 1,935 metres, making it one of Africa’s longest. Beginning at the Uwinka Visitor Centre, this aerial adventure is divided into three exhilarating sections—each named after Rwanda’s iconic primates. This zipline offers a thrilling yet serene journey through misty mountains and lush rainforest, providing an exceptional perspective on Nyungwe’s incredible biodiversity.
Test Your Limits: The Gisakura Rope Course
Located at the Gisakura Visitor Centre near the park’s western gate, the Nyungwe Rope Course is a 280-metre-long aerial obstacle course featuring 21 dynamic segments, including five ziplines. Designed for all skill levels, this physically and mentally engaging course includes rope bridges, swinging logs, climbing nets, and more—perfect for individuals, families, and team-building groups.
Each element offers a new challenge and a deeper connection to the forest, making it a fun and active way to explore the park’s edge.
Stay in the Heart of the Forest: Munazi Lodge Now Open
Nestled in the lush greenery of Nyungwe, Munazi Lodge is a new 20-bed eco-lodge designed to offer comfort, sustainability, and a deep connection to nature. Located off the Kigali–Rusizi road near Pindura, the lodge features nine beautifully crafted A-frame cottages, including one Executive A-frame, all of which are built using reclaimed exotic wood from the park to support forest regeneration.
Each cabin is elevated above the forest floor, providing privacy and offering panoramic views of the surrounding canopy. Handcrafted by local artisans, Munazi Lodge is a true community effort rooted in sustainability and cultural pride.
Guests can enjoy forested footpaths, spot wildlife such as chimpanzee and colobus monkey, and even catch glimpses of Lake Kivu on clear days. Whether you're seeking a peaceful escape or an eco-friendly adventure, Munazi Lodge offers a warm welcome and an unforgettable stay.
Nyungwe is one of the oldest rainforests in Africa and the largest expanse of forest in Rwanda, covering 1,019 km² of dense Afromontane forests, bamboo-covered slopes, grasslands, and wetlands. The park feeds two of the world’s largest rivers, the Congo and the Nile, and provides a significant portion of Rwanda’s fresh water. Over 1,100 recorded plant species, 345 bird species and 85 known mammal species, including 13 of Africa’s primates – notably, chimpanzee, Ruwenzori black-and-white colobus and L’Hoest’s monkeys – are found in this exceptional landscape.
