John Barrett is currently employed as the Head of Law Enforcement. John started his career with African Parks as the General Manager of Garamba National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in August 2016 until the reintroduction of white rhino in 2023. John retired from the British Army where he has a had a full, varied and operationally focused career in many regions of the world. He has extensive exposure to a wide spectrum of the security risk portfolio particularly in high threat environments. He has held numerous leadership roles and has broad managerial experience. John has had prior experience in Africa and had formed an emotional attachment to the work of species protection, and therefore the step to join African Parks was an easy one. John is a graduate of the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course.
