Year of the Dog
Dear Friends
As we entered the Chinese New Year, and the enthusiasm it has ushered in around the Year of the Dog, two donors from Hong Kong have made a special pledge. They will match every dollar donated between now and the end of April on a 2:1 basis, up to USD$100,000. That means if you donate $500, African Parks will receive $1,500.
In this Year of the Dog, we wish to pay special respect to the dogs in our canine anti-poaching units who are critical in the fight against the illegal wildlife trade. Canine units assist our law enforcement teams on the ground, tracking and detecting poachers. Specially trained dogs are excellent trackers who are able to help find poachers in difficult terrain; they can help apprehend criminals, sniff-out contraband including illegal firearms and wildlife products; and serve as an overall deterrent for illegal activity.
Every contribution to African Parks in honour of the Year of the Dog (received before 30th April) will be used to ensure that our ranger units have the training, equipment and support they need to perform at the front line of illegal wildlife trade networks.
This commitment would not be possible without the support of our donors who understand the importance of Hong Kong in the stance against the poaching of wildlife, the drivers of the global wildlife market and what it takes to stop the illegal killing of these precious species on the ground. Hong Kong can set an example for other countries to follow, defending the world’s remaining natural landscapes and wildlife.
Please help us demonstrate the commitment of the Hong Kong donor community in its support of our park rangers and canine units in Africa. I know it can be an overwhelming success – but only with your support.
Thank you,
Peter Fearnhead,
CEO
