To ensure the financial sustainability of the park, the long-term goal is to establish Boma-Badingilo as a globally renowned protected area, where visitors can enjoy what is proving to be one of Africa’s most spectacular wilderness areas. The legislation, laws and fees relating to nature-based tourism are being explored, as well as the options and mechanisms for future investments in tourism. A full park management team is in place, and land-use and business plans are being developed with key stakeholders.
The concept of community-supported tourism has been well received in discussions with the local leaders of Jebel Boma and Vertet County; as a result, a pilot tourism project in Maruwa is being developed at a site chosen for its natural beauty, and variety of potential activities.
Successful meetings with UNESCO and government representatives have been held to discuss the process of establishing the Boma-Badingilo landscape as a World Heritage Site.
