It is with deep sadness that we confirm the death of one of our rangers in Majete Wildlife Reserve in Malawi, Mr Bendius Amasi.

On patrol with a fellow ranger on the south east side of the park near Chingalumba - Chandeta on the evening of 20 October 2022, the pair came across poachers in the Reserve.

During the pursuit of the poachers Mr Amasi was separated from his colleague and reported missing. His body was subsequently discovered in the early hours of Friday, 21 October 2022 close to the fence at Chingalumba – Chandeta by fellow rangers called on to assist in searching for him.

The family of the deceased has been informed and the matter has been handed over to the police for further investigation. A team of Majete rangers, including the dedicated investigations unit, have been on the ground since the incident to support the authorities in their investigation.

Mr. Amasi joined Majete Wildlife Reserve in 2019 and has been a dedicated and well-respected ranger known for his bravery.  We are shocked by the loss of one of our team members.

As we mourn his passing, we wish to extend our sincere condolences to his wife, three children, family and friends.
