Drought Relief: Support our Children

Southern Africa is in the throes of a severe drought. A total crop failure in 2024 has impacted food supply and prices across Zimbabwe and other surrounding countries – many of which have declared National States of Disaster.

African Parks is being proactive and is committed to assisting the local communities in and around the parks we manage. One such community is in Zimbabwe’s rural Nyaminyami District, where Matusadona National Park is located.

Previous droughts have revealed that the hardest hit members of communities are children of primary school age. Not only are these children at a critical point in their development, but attendance at school drops off significantly during such times, as parents place their priorities elsewhere. But we can bring them relief – and so can you!

The park is pledging to supply one nutritional meal a day to as many local primary schools as possible – not only keeping the students nourished, but also encouraging them back to school. This programme includes 1,353 children, but – with your help – we’d like to reach more. Together, let’s reach all 2,700 primary school children in this district.
