Your Support Is Critical
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organisation that takes on the complete responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. We currently manage 22 national parks and protected areas in 12 countries covering over 20 million hectares (49 million acres).
By signing long-term management partnerships with governments and local communities, African Parks is responsible for the execution of all management functions related to that area, and is accountable to its partners, who remain the owners of the protected area and its natural resources. With the support of local communities being essential for effective conservation, park management is done in collaboration with local communities. Through this model, these well-managed protected areas provide ecosystem services that support human wellbeing, and establish security and governance and in turn an environment for socio-economic development. By maintaining a strong focus on biodiversity conservation and socio-economic development, each park becomes ecologically, socially, and financially sustainable.
To alter the trajectory of our planet’s health, we have charted an ambitious course to manage 30 protected, covering 30 million hectares, by 2030. Through effective management, these landscapes will contribute to our planetary health by safeguarding ecosystems that harbour significant biodiversity, sequestering carbon, and providing economic and ecological benefits for millions of people. At this critical time of planetary health, we stand ready to take decisive action. But we cannot do it alone. Our crucial work in securing Africa's biodiversity relies on partnerships with governments and communities and the generosity of donors like you.
Your support is more critical than ever. The past year is recorded as one of the warmest in history, illustrating the urgency to collectively address climate change. Within the areas under our management, African Parks safeguards ecosystems for the benefit of people and nature. Safeguarding these intact natural landscapes stands as one of our most effective tools in combating climate change.
Your contribution to African Parks yields profound impact. By supporting us, we are able to manage 20 million hectares (49 million acres) of thriving ecosystems, providing clean air, water, food security, supports employment, education, and healthcare to approximately 2.5 million people across the continent.
…But we need to do more. In collaboration with governments and communities across 12 countries, African Parks safeguards 22 parks, with an ambitious goal to manage 30 parks by 2030. This will contribute to the global goal of protecting 30% of the Earth by 2030.
Your donation to African Parks makes our mission possible. Although much remains to be accomplished, none of these crucial efforts would be possible without dedicated supporters like you.
Today, we urge you to stand with us and invest in our global future.
