African Parks Celebrates and Attends the People’s Postcode Lottery Annual Charity Gala

African Parks is delighted to have attended the 2018 People’s Postcode Lottery’s Annual Charity Gala where it was announced that £93.4 million was awarded to charities and good causes in 2017 – thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

African Parks was honoured to have also received £700,000 to advance our work in the field. In addition, African Parks’ CEO Peter Fearnhead was also the first person to receive the new ‘Rising Star’ Award in which individual leaders are recognised for their extraordinary achievements, together with £250,000 in contribution to our work.

The gala was a celebration of the phenomenal achievements of charities working across Great Britain and internationally that are supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. The lottery also took the opportunity to announce an increase to 32% of each ticket sale going directly to good causes. The news of the funding total and the increase was shared at the annual event, on Tuesday 23 January, at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh.

The event was attended by Actor Emma Thompson, broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan and TV presenter Fiona Philips. Entertainment on the night was provided by Heather Small.

In a recorded interview that was played at the Gala, Peter Fearnhead said: “Thank you to the Postcode; the award is a recognition of the people in the field that are so completely committed to the work that we do. This means the world to me, but will mean the world to them as well. Thank you to the players of the Postcode Lottery that make both this award and the financial contribution that we receive from you each year possible.”
