African Parks annonce la nomination d’un Panel Indépendant pour la résolution des griefs
Johannesburg, Afrique du Sud, 24 juin 2025 – African Parks a le plaisir d’annoncer la nomination d’un Panel Indépendant chargé de superviser le Mécanisme de Plaintes et de Réparations (GRM) de l’organisation. Ce Panel guidera l’enquête sur toutes les allégations de faute grave ayant un impact sur les communautés locales et autres parties prenantes vivant dans et autour des zones gérées par African Parks. Il assurera un traitement crédible et impartial des griefs présentés à l’organisation. Le Panel supervisera également le GRM d’African Parks, déjà établi, garantissant une surveillance indépendante de son fonctionnement. Il fera rapport au Conseil d’Administration d’African Parks et jouera un rôle consultatif sur des questions cruciales liées aux droits humains. Le travail du Panel sera soutenu par le Conseiller externe en droits humains et justice pénale ainsi que par d’autres experts dans la conduite d’enquêtes et l’assistance aux victimes.
- Le Panel Indépendant du GRM est composé de six éminents juristes et experts africains en droits humains issus de divers horizons. Il s’agit de :
- Hon. Justice Isaac Lenaola, Juge à la Cour suprême – Kenya
- Ivete Mafundza Espada, Avocate – Mozambique
- Hon. Justice Zione Ntaba, Juge à la Haute Cour – Malawi
- Brigadier Siachitema, Avocat – Zambie
- Isidore Clément Capo-Chichi, Avocat – Bénin
- Justice (à la retraite) Violet Mavisi, Juge – Kenya

African Parks a apporté des améliorations significatives à ses processus de sauvegarde dans l’ensemble de l’organisation. Les améliorations en cours favoriseront la collaboration avec les communautés locales et garantiront le respect et la protection des droits humains pour toutes les parties prenantes.
African Parks continuera à renforcer son approche de la conservation, en veillant à ce qu’elle soit fondée sur les droits et durable dans toutes ses dimensions.

MEMBERS OF THE GRIEVANCE AND REDRESS MECHANISM INDEPENDENT PANEL
- HON. JUSTICE ISAAC LENAOLA, SUPREME COURT JUDGE - KENYA
Hon. Justice Isaac Lenaola has over 40 years of experience as a lawyer and judicial officer in Kenya. He has received multiple distinguished service awards from the Law Society of Kenya, the East African Law Society, the International Association of Refugee and Migration Judges, and the Office of the President of Kenya.
He has served as a Judge of the East African Court of Justice for 7 years, as well as Judge and Vice President of the Residual Special Court for Sierra Leone and was a member of the Accountability Panel of the Wildlife Justice Commission.
- IVETE MAFUNDZA ESPADA,LAWYER - MOZAMBIǪUE
Ivete Mafundza Espada is a lawyer and human rights activist who has worked tirelessly for over 20 years to promote and uphold the rights of women and girls. She served as a UN Human Rights officer for six years and is a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Mozambican Bar Association. She played a key role in designing Mozambique’s National Business and Human Rights Plan under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. As a lecturer in law, human rights, and gender for fifteen years, Ms. Espada also collaborated with Lawyers without Borders in Canada, supporting litigation on transitional justice and women in prison.
- HON. JUSTICE ZIONE NTABA, HIGH COURT JUDGE - MALAWI
With over 20 years of experience in law, Hon. Justice Zione Ntaba has served as a High Court Judge in Malawi for more than a decade and has also been an independent advisor to UN Habitat since 2014. A former prosecutor in Malawi, Hon. Justice Ntaba has a lifelong passion for gender issues and has prior experience sitting on independent adjudication panels. She was an African scholar under the UK Chevening Award.
- BRIGADIER SIACHITEMA, LAWYER - ZAMBIA
Brigadier Siachitema is a senior lawyer at the Southern African Litigation Centre in Lusaka, where he has worked for over nine years, focusing on business and human rights. He is an advocate for the International Justice Mission in Zambia, emphasising land rights violations and gender-based violence. Mr. Siachitema brings a wealth of experience in directing investigations, interviewing, drafting, and training local communities and professionals. He holds a Master’s degree in International Business and Economic Law from Georgetown University and a Master’s in Human Rights Law from Oxford University.
- ISIDORE CLÉMENT CAPO-CHICHI, LAWYER - BENIN
Isidore Clément Capo-Chichi is a former president of the Benin Human Rights Commission, a position he held for five years. He has worked on human rights across the African continent for over 22 years. From 2014 to 2022, he served as an expert member of the Africa Working Group on Global Action against Mass Atrocities, as well as the African Commission Working Group on the Death Penalty, Extrajudicial, Summary, or Arbitrary Executions, and Enforced Disappearances in Africa. He was the President of the Institute for Advocacy in Africa from 2014 to 2018.
- JUSTICE (RTD.) VIOLET MAVISI, JUDGE - KENYA
In a career spanning over 35 years, Justice (Rtd.) Violet Mavisi serves as the Head of the Independent Grievance Mechanism for Kakuzi Plc in Kenya, where she focuses on human rights violations. She is the former presiding judge of the Constitutional Dispute Resolution Court in Kenya and has also served as Vice Chair and Commissioner of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights. Internationally, Justice (Rtd.) Mavisi has worked as a legal consultant in Somalia, Somaliland, Botswana, and South Sudan. She was a driving force behind the development of materials for Kenya’s judiciary regarding issues such as sexual exploitation, corruption, violent extremism, gender-based violence, election disputes, and more.
