Born and raised in Rwanda, Protais was hired as Nyungwe’s Park Manager since June 2021. He holds a MSc. in Biodiversity Conservation from the University of Rwanda, and has used Nyungwe forest as the ‘research laboratory’ for his previous studies. He has worked in Nyungwe since 2011, first as a Park Guide under the Rwanda Development Board until 2014; as the Biodiversity Monitoring Officer under the Wildlife Conservation Society – Rwanda Program until May, 2021; and as a Visiting Lecturer and curriculum reviewer at Kitabi College of Conservation and Environmental Management between 2015 and 2017. Inspired by the impact made by African Parks elsewhere on the continent, he has joined AP to contribute to the sustainable management of Nyungwe National Park.
