Pedro Monterroso
Regional Operations Manager (Angola and Mozambique)
Regional Management
Pedro Monterroso is a conservation scientist and protected-area manager with over 20 years of experience in wildlife ecology and evidence-based conservation. His academic training (BSc, MSc and PhD) focused entirely on biology and conservation. His scientific background centres on quantitative conservation ecology, spatial population modelling, and non-invasive wildlife monitoring—areas in which he has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed papers, supervised multiple PhD and MSc theses, and leads the Wildlife Conservation Ecology research group at CIBIO-InBIO.
He joined African Parks in 2022 as Conservation Manager for Iona National Park in Angola and served as Park Manager until October 2025. During this time, he contributed to operational strengthening, wildlife monitoring, and species restoration initiatives within this unique desert landscape. His management approach is strongly rooted in the “One Earth” vision that humanity and nature can coexist and thrive together, influencing one another through intricate links between human and wildlife land use that echo across biodiversity levels and shape human–wildlife relationships. This philosophy is supported by his scientific and applied conservation background and underpins his commitment to data-driven, evidence-based management as the foundation for effective conservation planning and protected-area operations.
Since November 2025, he has served as Regional Operations Manager (ROM), responsible for African Parks-managed protected areas across Lusophone countries in the network, ensuring strategic and operational coordination across the region.
