Park Management
Emma is Dutch by nationality but grew up moving frequently between Asia-Pacific and Europe, giving her an early appreciation for different landscapes and cultures. Her path into conservation began in 2015 with FGASA Level 1 Field Guide training in South Africa, which set her on course to pursue a BSc in Zoology & Ichthyology, a BSc (Hons) in Wildlife Management, and an MSc in Zoology/Ecology, the latter focused on elephant space-use and vegetation impact, across various South African universities. Emma moved to Rwanda in 2022, joining Akagera National Park as an intern before taking on a Research Support role across Akagera and Nyungwe. In 2025, she was appointed Akagera's Conservation and Research Manager, where she continues to apply her research background to safeguarding the park's wildlife and ecosystems.
