A tourism economy is a strong driving force for development and is an important element in our efforts to support local economic development and job opportunities for the communities around Pendjari National Park. The revitalisation of Pendjari is one of the 45 flagship projects of the investment programme "Revealing Benin" launched in December 2016 by the Presidency of Benin. Tourism is one of the strategic sectors targeted by this programme, the objective being to take advantage of the historical, cultural and natural heritage of Benin to develop a tourist industry that provides strong economic outcomes and jobs.
The REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries) carbon audit was completed and approved: formalisation of the project, and development of the mechanisms for managing the community share of the carbon revenue in Benin, is underway.
