Quality Education
Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
A well-informed constituency that understands and appreciates the value of protected areas is critical to the sustainability of each park. AP provides support for general education through scholarships for students and teachers, educational materials and infrastructural support to schools. In 2018, 76,000 children and 271 teachers received support. In addition, the park conducts conservation-specific educational outreach to build a constituency who will support the long-term future of these wild places. A selection of the parks welcome school groups to visit and experience the park for themselves. For example, in 2018, Akagera welcomed more than 2,400 students from 37 Rwandan schools as part of the annual environmental education program.
