AP contributes most significantly to poverty alleviation through direct employment. In 2018, AP paid over $11.6 million in salaries to over 4,800 employees, which are typically individuals from rural areas with limited employment opportunities. Additionally, because AP enters into a long-term management agreement (typically 10 to 50 years) with each national government, we have a sustained impact and contribute meaningful investment in economic and ecological resilience. Over the past five years, AP has invested over $173 million in conservation, which ultimately demonstrates reinvestment in the local and national economies. Since the well-being and livelihoods of rural populations are closely linked to the environment and natural resources it provides, our impact extends to the provision of basic services, such as health and education.
