Law Enforcement

Illegal hunting has caused a decline in all of the large mammal species in Iona. Much of this hunting is done with dogs and rifles and there is also some snaring. Initial efforts of law enforcement, in conjunction with integrating community involvement, will consist of ensuring the integrity of the park perimeter and compliance with national wildlife laws within the park. Patrols along the park perimeter will focus on access control and monitoring of entrance points to stop illegal entry of livestock and potential poachers into Iona.
