Obedi Gomezga Mkandawire grew up in a village in Rumphi District north of Malawi, Obedi Mkandawire has worked in the conservation field for 32 years. He studied at Natural Resources College in Malawi where he got a Certificate in Wildlife Management. Later, he studied at the College of African Wildlife Management, Mweka, Tanzania where he got a diploma and advanced diploma in Wildlife Management. Thereafter he studied at the University of Kent in the UK where he graduated with an MSc. in Conservation Biology. After working for the Malawi Department of National Parks and Wildlife for 24 years at various positions. He retired and joined Total Land Care, an Agricultural and Natural Resources based NGO where he managed donor funded projects for the NGO in the Northern Region of Malawi for six years. He joined African Parks, Nkhotakota as Community Extension Manager in 2015. His primary goal is to set up a functioning Community Extension program that has a meaningful contribution towards the sustainable management of the park and economic empowerment for the local community bordering the Park.
