Born in 1951, he started his career as a Game Warden at Kasungu National Park in 1977. He rose to Parks and Wildlife Officer in 1981 and in 1983 he was promoted Senior Parks and Wildlife Officer for Nyika National Park. In 1986 Mr Matemba was promoted to Principal Parks and Wildlife Officer at the Headquarters in Lilongwe and in 1989 he rose to Chief Parks and Wildlife Officer.He became Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in 1996 and he was appointed Executive Director of The Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) from 2001 to 2012. He retired in 2012 whilst serving at MANEB,He joined the Board of Directors of African PARKS Malawi Ltd in 2015
